Pergolas, outdoor kitchens, louvred roofs and covered alfresco areas. Coastal-grade materials, marine-spec fixings, built to handle the salt and the southerly.
Outdoor living on the Northern Beaches is brutal on the wrong materials. Cheap stainless rusts in twelve months. Standard MDF cabinetry blows apart at the first heavy summer. Pine pergola posts split, sag and rot.
We build outdoor structures the way they need to be built for this environment. Marine-grade stainless. Hot-dip galvanised fixings. Hardwood posts on stirrups, not buried in concrete. Cabinetry on aluminium or HPL substrate, not raw timber. The cost difference at quote stage is small. The cost difference at year five is everything.
If you're spending $30,000 on an outdoor kitchen, it should still look right at year fifteen.
Get a Free QuotePost-and-beam pergolas in Spotted Gum or Blackbutt. Freestanding or attached. Open-batten roof for dappled light, or fitted with louvres for full control.
Built-in BBQ stations, bar fridges, sinks, gas connections, marine-grade cabinetry. From a bench-and-BBQ to a full second kitchen with rangehood and roof.
Adjustable louvred systems for full sun, full shade, or full weather seal. Retrofitted over existing decks or built into a new structure from scratch.
Lined ceilings, recessed downlights, ceiling fans wired in, weatherboarded soffits. The kind of outdoor room you actually use in winter.
Bench seats around the deck edge with hidden storage, drinks bars, planters and feature screens. Integrated, not bolted on.
Outdoor showers off the pool, plumbed bars, and the awkward little bits between deck, pool and house that other builders skip.
Half the value we add is knowing what doesn't work. Here's what we specify and why.
Grade 304 stainless rusts within a year of installation on absolute beachfront. We specify 316 for everything within 1km of the surf — sinks, hardware, BBQ housings, fixings.
Marine-ply with HPL face, or full aluminium carcasses. Standard MDF kitchen carcasses shouldn't go outside, full stop.
Engineered stone discolours and cracks under sustained UV. Granite and full-body porcelain handle the sun, the rain and the occasional dropped tongs.
Pergola posts on galvanised stirrups, raised off the slab. Posts buried in concrete rot from the inside out within 8–12 years on coastal sites.
Built-in BBQ, bar fridge and stone benchtop integrated into a hardwood deck. Marine-grade fixings throughout, lined ceiling overhead.
"100 year old Californian bungalow needing rotting timbers replaced and a new outdoor space — really impressed." — Max H., Manly
Hardwood pergola attached to the existing alfresco, fitted with adjustable louvres. Used year-round once the louvres went in.
"Coby and the team were amazing. Friendly, on time and very clear and transparent." — Elizabeth N., Avalon
Full alfresco room with lined ceiling, recessed downlights, ceiling fans and a built-in bar. Used as an extension of the indoor living space.
"Brought our vision to life. Better than expected actually." — Brooke R., Avalon
Every job is priced after a site visit. The figures below are realistic ranges to help you budget before we quote.
$8,000–$22,000
3 x 4m to 5 x 6m, batten roof, hardwood posts on stirrups. Louvred roof adds $8,000–$18,000.
$6,000–$15,000
Granite or porcelain benchtop, marine cabinetry, gas connection. Excludes premium BBQ unit.
$22,000–$48,000
BBQ, sink, bar fridge, full cabinetry, gas, plumbing, lighting. Coastal-grade specs.
$35,000–$85,000
Lined ceiling, downlights, fans, integrated bar or kitchen, optional louvred roof.
Prices supplied and built. Premium appliances, sloping sites and full structural roofs can shift these ranges.
Most freestanding pergolas under 25 sqm and less than 3m high fall under exempt development. Attached pergolas, larger structures, anything with a solid roof, or builds in heritage and bushfire zones usually need a Complying Development Certificate (CDC) or DA through Northern Beaches Council. We confirm the pathway before quoting.
A simple built-in BBQ with a stone benchtop and basic cabinetry runs $6,000–$15,000. A full outdoor kitchen with sink, fridge, marine-grade joinery, gas connection and roof cover lands $20,000–$45,000. Site access, plumbing runs and premium appliances move the number up.
Stainless steel grade 316 (marine grade) is the only stainless that holds up to salt air long-term. Cabinetry should be HPL-faced marine ply or aluminium — not standard timber substrate. Benchtops in granite, dekton or 20mm porcelain handle UV and rain better than engineered stone outdoors.
A standalone pergola takes 1–2 weeks. Outdoor kitchens with plumbing and gas typically run 2–4 weeks once trades are coordinated. Full alfresco rooms with louvred roofs and full kitchens can run 4–6 weeks.
Yes. We retrofit louvred roof systems over existing decks regularly, provided the existing structure or new posts can take the load. We coordinate with the louvre supplier and a structural engineer if required.
It will if it's the wrong stainless and the wrong fixings. Grade 304 stainless rusts within a year on absolute beachfront. We specify 316 marine-grade stainless for everything within 1km of the surf, and we use stainless or hot-dip galvanised fixings throughout. Done properly, the kitchen lasts decades.
Yes. Lined ceilings (VJ panel, weatherboard, or shadowclad) finished in a paintable surface look far better than exposed rafters and last longer in coastal conditions. Recessed downlights, fans and speakers can be wired in during the build.
Five layouts that work for Northern Beaches homes, with materials that survive coastal salt air.
Hardwood and composite decks across the Northern Beaches. Often the foundation an outdoor living build sits on.
Materials matter. The same logic that drives deck choice applies to pergola posts, screens and built-ins.
